Steps Of Becoming A Lawyer

TIP 6 Mutual Consultation

Like the tip above on being exclusive, yet another strategy to exclusivity would be to make it clear in the first interview with a prospective family law client that it's a mutual consultation. That is, the client is consulting you and you're consulting with the customer to be able to determine whether the two of you are a match. This makes it significantly simpler to say no if, in the close of the interview, any of those hairs on the back of the neck have gone upward. Among the frustrations in household law is currently behaving for clients. Most conflict cases involve people. They may be the ruin of your own life and make practicing dramatically more challenging than it must be. You need to make it clear on a first consultation that the objective of the interview is to ascertain whether there is a fit between the lawyer and the client and that there's to be no duty on each side to either retain the lawyer or accept a retainer. Accordingly, it follows that when it becomes clear in the very first interview that there are some reasons why you should not take the situation, you have to learn to say "no" in the very earliest possible stage.

TIP 5 Be Exclusive

When interviewing clients at your very first meeting, many lawyers try hard to impress their customers to acquire the file. Try turning the tables and create yourself exclusive. In essence, the client has been interviewed by the attorney and the lawyer decides whether or not she or he will take on that customer. Unless the customer fulfills the criteria the lawyer will just not accept the matter.

TIP 16 Returning Calls

Teach your client from the beginning on what to expect in terms of returned phone calls. Respond to your clients. Have one of your staff call if you can't do it. Clients pay a good deal of money for lawyers and they deserve attention.

TIP 22 You Are Not Right For Everyone

Try to make your legal practice fit you and your style rather than trying to change yourself to suit somebody else's idea of what family law clinic should be. Stay true to your values and principles and do not attempt to change who you are to accommodate a client. Do not attempt to become a round peg in a square hole. There are lots of customers, some fit and some don't. There are different lawyers who will help.
